If people are forced to leave their homeland or their nation is a victim of genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced deportation, and/or they are born in the diaspora, where they are unable to get out of their skin, the following proverb applies. ‘A Leopard Never Changes Its Spots’. في 21 مايو/أيار 2007، وهو يوم يعتبره الشتات الشركسي يوم الذكرى الشركسي، استضافت مؤسسة جيمستاون مؤتمرا ليوم واحد بعنوان: الشركس: الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل. وشارك في هذا الحدث بعض الخبراء الرُّوَّاد في العالم بشؤون شمال القوقاز — بما في ذلك عملاقان على هذا الصّعيد — بول ب. هنزه (1924 = 2011) وكمال كربات (1923 – 2019). كان كلاهما من العلماء ذوي الرؤية وخبراء في السياسات حيث عملا مع مؤسسة جيمستاون لإبراز تاريخ الشركس. وفي ذكرى هنزه وكربات، واحتراما ليوم الذكرى الشركسي، تود مؤسسة جيمستاون أن تلفت انتباهكم إلى عملهم السابق ومساهماتهما في هذا المجال.
تتضمن مقاطع الفيديو أدناه مؤتمر مؤسسة جيمستاون لعام 2007 ”الشركس: الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل“، الذي استضافته بشكل مشترك مع المعهد الثقافي الشركسي. لقد كان الحدث عبارة عن تجمع فريد من نوعه، وكان له تميُّز كبير في ظهور كل من كربات وهنزه. ويمكن للمرء أن يرى كربات يناقش الهجرة الجماعية الشركسية إلى تركيا، ويقدم هنزه منظورًا تاريخيًا حول الشركس والإمبراطورية الروسية. تعتبر هذه الأفكار والتحليلات الفريدة في هذه المجموعة الصغيرة محل تقدير. تجد أدناه رابطًا لمقتطف من كتاب هنزا لعام 1996 ”حاجز شمال القوقاز: المقاومة الشركسية لروسيا“. Press Release: The Circassians: Past, Present and Future – In Remembrance of Paul Henze and Kemal Karpat
On May 21, 2007, a day regarded as Circassian Memorial Day by the Circassian Diaspora, the Jamestown Foundation hosted a one day conference entitled: The Circassians: Past, Present, and Future. Participating in that event were some of the world’s leading experts on the North Caucasus – including two giants of the field – Paul B. Henze (1924-2011) and Kemal Karpat (1923-2019). Both were visionary scholars and policy experts who worked with The Jamestown Foundation to elevate the history of the Circassians. In memory of Henze and Karpat, and in honor of the Circassian Memorial Day, Jamestown would like to draw your attention to their past work and contributions to the field. Read more
