Circassian Center Opens in Istanbul as Link Between Homeland and Diaspora

            Staunton, April 27 – Some 500 people came to the opening of a Circassian Cultural Center in Istanbul, a center that intends to play a role linking the more than three million Circassians in Turkey with the three-quarters of a million of their fellow ethnics in the North Caucasus homeland.

            Even though there are questions as to how freely the Turkish government and the Russian government will allow it to operate given that each has concerns about Circassians as minorities, this is an important symbolic “embassy” of the Circassian communities in both countries and elsewhere as well (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/334841/). ستاونتون، 25 أبريل/نيسان— تحتفل العديد من الدول في جميع أنحاء العالم بـ ”أيام العَلَم“ الخاصة بها، لكن بالنسبة لمعظمها، يعتبر يوم العَلَم في أفضل الأحوال مناسبة ثانوية، وعادةً لا يعتبر يوم عطلة أو له معنىً عميقًا لأولئك الذين يحتفلون به. غير أنه بالنسبة للشركس، وبسبب وضعهم وبسبب العلم، يعتبر هذا التاريخ أكثر اهمية بكثير.

اليوم، كما أصبح  يحتفل به تقليديًا، يحتفل الشراكسة الذين يعيشون في جميع أنحاء العالم بيوم العلم الشركسي. وداخل حدود الفيدرالية الروسية، حيث يظل الشركس مُقسَّمين رسمياً إلى ستة قوميات، يحاول المسؤولون عرقلة الاحتفالات؛ لكن ذلك بحد ذاته يجعل تلك الفعاليات والعلم نفسه أكثر أهمية. Read more →

Кабардино-Балкария стала единственным регионом, где власти запретили традиционный автопробег в честь Дня черкесского флага. 25 апреля соцсети заполонили фото- и видеосвидетельства того, как сотрудники правоохранительных органов в Нальчике заставляли владельцев автомобилей и мотоциклов убирать флаги. The crushing victories of Batu’s armies initiated nearly two and one-half centuries of Mongol dominance in Russia. Russian princes were forced to submit as vassals of the khan of the Golden Horde and to pay tribute or risk the ravages of Mongol raiders. Mongol exactions fell particularly heavily on the Russian peasantry, who had to yield up their crops and labor to both their own princes and the Mongol overlords. Impoverished and ever fearful of the lightning raids of Mongol marauders, the peasants fled to remote areas or became, in effect, the serfs of the Russian ruling class in return for protection. —في غمرة الاحتفال بإحياء يوم العلم الشركسي الذي يصادف اليوم الخامس والعشرين من شهر أبريل/نيسان، ينبغي الإشارة إلى ما تم ذكره بخصوص هذا الموضوع في الرواية التاريخية الشهيرة بعنوان حجر الرحى (Millstone)، التي كتبها ونشرها الكاتب الشركسي المعروف اسحق ماشباش (Iskhak Mashbash). وتجدر الاشارة الى أن الرواية نشرت باللغة الروسية في عام 1993، ثم نشرت بلغات اخرى فيما بعد، حيث ترجمت الى اللغة العربية ونشرت في دمشق في العام 2002— Read more →
