            ستاونتون، 5 أبريل/نيسان — ترك السكان المحليون عبر شمال القوقاز القضايا السياسية والخاصة بالأراضي جانبا لمساعدة بعضهم البعض للتعامل مع التهديد المشترك الذي تمثله جائحة فيروس كورونا، وتنظيم المساعدات للفقراء، والعمل على صعيد المجتمعات المحلية والشركات بدلاً من توقع أن تأخذ الحكومة زمام المبادرة.

            يقول المعنيون أن هذا هو الرد التقليدي للناس هناك على الرغم من أنه من المرجح الآن أن يتم تنظيمه عبر الإنترنت بدلا من المساجد، وأنه يؤكد من جديد أهمية المجتمع والإيمان بعد فترة انقسم فيها الكثيرين سياسيًا (kavkaz–uzel.eu/articles/347906/).

            وبقدر ما يمنح هذا النشاط شعوب هذه المنطقة شعوراً بالإحساس بالإنتماء للمجتمع والكفاءة الذاتية، إلا أنه من المحتمل أن تكون له عواقب سياسية في المستقبل، مما يمنح الناس الشعور بأن لديهم طاقات للعمل لم يكونوا يعرفون أنهم يمتلكونها، مما يجعلهم أكثر استعدادًا من الماضي للعمل باستقلالية أكثر عن السلطات. Faced with Pandemic, North Caucasians Set Aside Politics to Help One Another

            Staunton, April 5 – Across the North Caucasus, local people have set aside political and land issues to help one another deal with the common threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic, organizing assistance to the poor and homebound as communities and businesses rather than expecting the government to take the lead.

            Those involved say that this is the traditional response of people there even though now it is more likely to be organized via the Internet than via the mosque and that it reaffirms the importance of community and faith after a period in which many have been divided politically (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/347906/). Preventing Assimilation Rather than Returning to North Caucasus Must be Circassians’ Main Focus, Gunger Says

            Staunton, April 4 – The repatriation of Circassians from around the world to the historical homeland in Circassia in the North Caucasus is both “impossible and unnecessary for the Circassian people,” Negor Fethi Gunger says. Instead, the Circassians should focus on developing their common identity wherever they live and avoiding assimilation.

            The professor at Turkey’s Yalova University advanced this argument at the online Circassian Circle at the end of last month (aheku.net/news/society/cherkesskij-krug).
