Agency Caucasus: Yevkurov Appoints Pliyev As His Counsellor

Yevkurov appoints Pliyev as his counsellor

Nazran/Agency Caucasus – Yunus-bek Yevkurov, the current president of the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia, endeavours to get members of the opposition involved in his administration.

Musa Pliyev, who has started to legally represent the family of Magomed Yevloyev in court after Yevloyev was killed in police custody, became a presidential counsellor on December 7. Yevloyev was himself a lawyer and a figure of the opposition. He was taken in police custody only days after he argued with former President Murat Zyazikov.

Pliyev is assigned the task of maintaining coordination between security forces and members of the judiciary. He will notify the president fully about the course of action taken by the security forces. He will aslso have the power to have the prosecutors monitor the security forces when they take a particular course of action.

According Pliyev himself, Yevkurov appointed him as his counsellor because of his experience. “I was one of the members of the opposition until recently,” said Pliyev. “But I was still actively dealing with cases that worst hit the republic–like murders, kidnappings and so on and so forth.”

Yevkurov was appointed by Dmitri Medvedev as the third President of Ingushetiya after the federal forces and the police had carried out operations that knew no limits during the presidency of his predecessor.
