A review from the history of Cherkessia. Forgotten civilization: A glimpse of Circassian History.
In us and generally accepted when we say antique world we understand Rome, Greece, Egypt, Interior, Armenia and several other influential countries since that period. Meanwhile, there were nations and states that have been part of that antique world, but history seems to have forgotten them.
Many of us have heard about the nation, but we know little about these old people and their history.
The origin of the Cherkez people is numbered until the 8th century BC, when there was still the Bosphorian kingdom and probably the Kimerian empire that existed on the shore of the Sea of Azov until 1500 BC. They had close cultural and commercial connections of the ancient Greeks, especially with the Athens, and even participated in the Olympic Games. Cherkez people’s beliefs were also relevant to the Greek gods at that time, for example Shi-bla, the god of thunder, was their Zeus.
Cherkez engaged in agriculture, had a feudlical and patriarchal system consisting of authorities, honesty, freedoms and chorts. Some historical sources indicate that they consisted of different tribes that had very close connections.
Cherkezes under the influence of the Byzantine empire adopted Christianity in the 5th and 6th centuries, before, for example, the Dagestans in the north of the 8th century adopted Islam.
Cherkezia has long been left out of the Arab and Islamic influence. So Cherkezia and Georgia were then combining the only Christian island in the Muslim Sea and together requesting Russia for protection. Tsar Ivan Ahegh’s wife was not you by nationality. Muslims began not earlier than in Cherkezia 17 The 18th century, and only in the 18th century at risk of Russian achievements, they had to accept Islam, so that they could seek help from the Muslim Ottoman Empire and Crimean Tatars store.
Cherkez people have fought against Russian achievements for more than a century from 1764 to 1864 The fight lasted longer against Russian achievements than any other Caucasian people. Cherkasy’s last defeat was tragic for them. Russia after victory Not only did he kill the Cherkezes, but also the rest were violently deprived of their own historical homeland (today’s Sochi, Adler and other cities).
Since then, most of them have found shelter and still live in Turkey, Jordan and other Middle East countries.
