A soldier from the Urvansky district was convicted of evading military service

The court sentenced a serviceman from the Urvan region, Kazbek Boranov, to two years in prison, finding him guilty of leaving his unit without permission.

As the ” Caucasian Knot ” wrote , on September 24, 2022, parts 2.1, 3.1 and 5 of Article 337 on unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service during mobilization were introduced into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. The tightening of legislation after the announcement of mobilization led to harsher sentences for absence from a military unit or desertion, human rights activists pointed out.

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court found serviceman Boranov guilty of evading military service during mobilization (Part 3.1 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to two years in a general regime penal colony, the court’s press service reported.

The verdict was handed down on December 18, according to a message on the court’s VKontakte page. “The court found that Boranov, without good reason, on October 3, 2024, during the mobilization period, failed to report for duty at a military unit stationed in the village of Troitskaya in the Sunzhensky District of the Republic of Ingushetia. On October 28, 2024, Boranov voluntarily reported to the military investigative department, and from October 3 to 28, 2024, he spent time at his own discretion in the village of Germenchik in the Urvansky District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and evaded military service,” the court reported.

The accused “expressed regret for what he had done” in court, the publication says.

Boranov’s name was not indicated in the court’s statement. According to the case file on the court’s website, the defendant was Kazbek Boranov. The case was received by the court on December 9, and a single hearing was held on it, at which the verdict was handed down.

Part 3.1 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service during mobilization for a period of more than 10 days but not more than a month) provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
