Circassians Come Out in Support of Jailed Ingush Opposition Leaders

Russia’s New Aggression in Georgia

A series of interesting developments in Georgia points to a subtle but persistent attempt by Moscow to take complete control of that nation’s political processes.

The decision to allow Russian parliamentarian and defender of Abkhazia and South Ossetia’s independence to sit in the Speaker of Parliament’s chair on July 20 enraged much of the population and triggered protests that were aggressively confronted by Georgian security forces, creating the surreal picture of Georgian militiamen defending a representative of an occupying force from their own citizens. The picture became clearer when Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing russophobia in Georgia, announced a suspension of flights to Tbilisi, however.

            ستاونتون، 29 يوليو/تموز — قبل يوم من احياء يوم إعادة التوطين في جمهورية أديغي (Adygey Republic) في 1 أغسطس/آب، أدان الناشط الشركسي عسكر سوخت (Asker Sokht) موسكو بسبب ازدواجية المعايير المتعلقة بالهجرة ورأى بأن ممارسة التمييز ضد الهجرة المحتملة على أسس إثنية لا يسهم في إعطاء صورة إيجابية عن روسيا في العالم.

Circassian Activist Denounces Moscow for ‘Discriminating Against Compatriots on Ethnic Lines’

            Staunton, July 29 – In advance of the Day of the Repatriant in the Adygey Republic on August 1, Circassian activist Asker Sokht has condemned Moscow for double standards on immigration and argued that discriminating against potential immigrations on ethnic lines does not contribute to a positive image of Russia in the world.

            His toughly-worded article appears on the Regnum news agency portal, a place which most often reflects Russian nationalist views rather than the defense of non-Russian peoples in general or the nations of the North Caucasus in particular.
