Circassians: Sochi is our capital

Kfar Kama. Everything here is authentic and Circassian. There is even an ethnographic museum. The life story of a people that was once expelled from the Caucasus is in a small exposition. Today, only 12% of the Circassians live in Russia – the rest are in the diaspora. Four thousand of them live in Israel.

The village of Kfar Kama, the capital of Israeli Circassians, has become a center of protest in Israel against the Sochi Olympics. The idea of claims against Russia is supported by the majority of the Circassians in the diaspora.

The curator and creator of the Ethnographic Museum Zoger says that such a museum does not exist in Turkey, nor in Syria, nor in America, where the Circassians live much more than in Israel. And like every nation, the Circassians have their own dream – to return to the Caucasus. They are now protesting not only against Sochi 2014. They advocate that Russia acknowledge its mistakes.

Zoger Thauha himself says: “In recent years, people around the world have come to understand that the Caucasus is not Russia. The Caucasus was an independent state. We are talking about Circassia in a historical sense. And Russia, as a democratic country, must understand our national aspirations. ”

Sochi was the capital of the Circassian state and the last bastion of Russian resistance in the centennial war. They cannot return to the territory of their historical homeland, to where the Circassians were expelled 146 years ago. The Olympics on the bones is an unacceptable option for the Circassians. Even the venue for the Olympics, they say, is actually a cemetery.

At the suggestion of the diaspora to discuss problems in the State Duma, they answered in silence. Ahead at the Circassians meeting with politicians in Europe and the United States. The Circassians themselves understand that just so no one will give anything to them. However, as Zoger said, without hope for justice, there is no justice.
