             ستاونتون، 11 سبتمبر/أيلول – يقول سيرغي أروتيونوف (Sergey Arutyunov)، بأن “إصطلاح ‘روسين’ هو فئة أوسع من الذين هم من الإثنيّة الروسيّة”، وأن مواطنينا هم ليسوا فقط من الإثنيّين الرّوس في كندا أو الأرجنتين، ولكن التوفيين (Tuvins) في شينجيانغ (Xinjiang)، والبورياتيّين (Buryats) في شيميخين (Shemekhen) والشركس في سورية أو الإمارات العربيّة المتحدة – على الأقل طالما أنهم يريدون أن يعتبروا أنفسهم بأن يكونوا كذلك”.

            ويقول رئيس قسم القوقاز في معهد موسكو لعلم الأجناس وعلم الإنسان (Moscow Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology)، في استعراض رائع لثلاثة كتب حديثة عن الشركس وذاكرتهم التاريخية، بأن هذه الحقيقة البسيطة في أن الهويات العرقية والسياسية هي ليست نفسها، الأمر الذي “يجب أن يكون مفهوما لدى الصحفيين والوزراء والقوزاق الجدد وحتّى المحافظين. Window on Eurasia: Russians Must Recognize Circassians as ‘Rossiyane’ or Face Disaster, Arutyunov Says

Staunton, September 11 – “’Rossiyane’ is a much broader category than ethnic Russians, and our compatriots,” Sergey Arutyunov says, are not only Russians in Canada or Argentina but Tuvins in Xinjiang, Buryats in Shemekhen and Circassians in Syria or the United Arab Emirates — at least as long as they want to consider themselves to be such.”

And this simple fact that ethnic and political identities are not the same is something which “must be understood by journalists and ministers, and neo-Cossacks and even governors, the head of the Caucasus Department of the Moscow Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, says in a remarkable review of three recent books on Circassians and their historical memory.
