Olga Begretova

The Circassian woman has always played an important role in serving her community and nation in any field she can work in and in any specialty she is involved in. Thus, she plays her pioneering role in her family as a daughter, sister, and mother towards what is known as the mother of all, represented by the Circassian homeland.

News and information have been published regarding the harassment by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) of Olga Begretova, a public affairs, law, and human rights activist. Her late father served as the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.

The FSB employs questionable intelligence methods, including tactics that resemble terrorism, to target individuals whom local authorities in the North Caucasus, particularly in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, wish to constraint، monitor or influence them. These measures aim to silence dissent or hinder volunteer work.

Unfortunately, such actions are not uncommon, and any citizen can become a victim without clear explanations of the security personnel’s actions or the relevant legal basis.

Olga Begretova is a dedicated social and legal activist with a strong sense of justice and compassion. She focuses on public affairs and citizen rights, especially advocating for oppressed women in the realm of human rights.

In recent years, she co-chaired the organization ‘OCHAG,’ assisting returnees and collecting donations for their needs. Additionally, she actively engages in legal matters related to humanitarian causes, defending vulnerable individuals from unjust treatment.

In November 2022, border guards subjected Olga Begretova to fingerprinting, photography, and the collection of biological samples. Despite her complaint about their abuse of power, both the Investigative Committee and the court declined to pursue a case against the human rights activist. [1]

In conclusion, it is obvious from time to time to confront some of the abnormal colonial practices that have reached the point of plundering and exploiting wealth and resources, economic domination, encouraging hate speech, silencing voices, and restricting freedom of opinion and expression. As well as denying basic human rights and imposing strange Russian cultural practices, not to mention imposing the Russian language and belittling the role of other languages and cultures, specifically the Circassian language and culture, in all fields and in all aspects of life.
