In Nalchik Adygeyan New Year’s Day will be celebrated

Circassian public associations of Kabardino-Balkaria organize celebrating of “The spring equinox day” – the Adygeyan traditional agricultural New Year’s Day. In the native language the holiday Adygs name “ Maf’aschkh’atyh” or “G’ara sch’ara sch’yzahach”.
The date of its carrying out is March 22nd 2007, from 1.00 p.m. till 5.00 p.m. The place of its carrying out is Nalchik, Abkhazia square.
The program of the holiday action includes:
1.00-2.00 p.m. Horse procession (a vehicle + 5 horsemen) on the route the town hippodrome –Malbahov’s street – Ossetic street–Lenin Prospect– Abkhazia square.
2.00 -4.00 p.m. Ceremonial actions: ethnographic digression to the history of the ceremony; sacrifice of the black hen; flowing water ablution; cutting of the ceremonial pie; frying on the open fire a ram’s fat tail; game “rolling nuts from the inclined surface”; ceremonial corn grinding in millstones; ceremonial children’s church chanting “Kh’uroma”; the entertainment with ceremonial food.
4.00-5.00 p.m. Adyghe Djegu – national dances.
