CONFERENCE IN ANKARA
April, 21st 2008

Sajkhan Umarov for the SNA CHECHENPRESS, April, 14th 2008

On Friday 11 April 2008 the Turkish MPs held a representative conference in Anakara (Turkey) dedicated to the problems of Chechnya and the whole of the North Caucasus. In addition to the Turkish MPs the conference was attended by Turkish social and political leaders, human rights activists and representatives of the media.

The ChRI honorary consul in Turkey Mr.Medet addressed the participants in his welcome speech. He provided a short scientific and historical background of the Chechen people, talked about the many centuries of the vaihakhs’ and other North Caucasus peoples’  resistance struggle against the colonial expansion of the Russian empire. Mr.Medet stressed the fact that the conquest and military aggression in the North Caucasus by Russia did not meet with the wild and isolated tribes the way it is often portrayed by the Russian historians and propaganda men. Those were the peoples with an ancient history and a developed statehood. In particular, Mr. Medet drew the attention of the audience to the fact that as far back as the 19th century, Shamil’s Imamat had an advanced constitution, long before Russia got itself a similar document at the beginning of the 20th century.

The conference participants and representatives of the media were particularly keen to learn about the present stage of the national liberation struggle of the Chechens and other North Caucasus peoples.  Many questions raised at the conference were about the military and political consequences for the ChRI of the declaration of the Caucasus Emirate. The ChRI General Representative in Muslim Countries Said Askhabov addressed these questions. He told the participants that the Caucasus Emirate declaration violated all legal rules and principles of Islam and was a targeted provocation on the part of a certain group of people who had a vested interest in splitting up (introducing a fitna) in the resistance movement and in depriving the Chechen people of all the legitimate foundations of its struggle against the Russian aggressors. He adduced concrete facts which demonstrated that the group of provocateurs who had initiated the idea of the Caucasus Emirate were acting on the orders and under the direct influence of the Russian special services.

The deputy General Representative of the ChRI in Muslim Countries Yakub Magomadov, who also spoke at the conference assured the participants that many fighters and commanders of the Chechen Resistance were adamant in their resolve to defend the state sovereignty of the ChRI and had no intention to deviate from the path bequeathed to the by the great son of the Chechen people Dzhokhar Dudaev and his successors. Yakub Magomadov stressed that despite the attempts by the group of provocateurs who hate the Chechen people, and by their Russian masters, due to the decisive measures taken by the Chechen Parliament the Chechen statehood has managed to preserve its legal foundations.

All the participants of the conference were steadfast in their support of the national liberation struggle of the Chechen people and other peoples of the North Caucasus and assured the ChRI representatives that the Turkish MPs, representatives of public, political and human rights organisations would continue to assist their brothers in the Caucasus in their valiant and just struggle.
